Summer is in full swing and the weather has been as hot as ever! The pool is a great spot to cool off and beat the heat!
We have taught over 100 students in our group lessons so far at both the Wellington Trace community and the Spring Ridge community in Frederick. Our students have mastered the front and back float, breaststroke and the fear of water!
The summer is swimming on by, make sure your child is swimming too!
Our next session starts on Monday July 26th-August 5th. Our last session will be August 9th-19th.
See you at the pool!

Did you know in 2009 more than 600 drownings occurred in the United States?
About 300 children drown each year in the United States in hot tubs and pools. Even when you are going to a pool that has life guards watch your children. Life guards are not babysitters. They are there as a last resort. You have to remember that they have lots of people to look after not just your child.
The Drowning Prevention Foundation says 19% of all child drownings happen in public pools where guards are on duty. Keep an eye on your child at all times.

One finding reinforces how quickly submersion accidents can happen. It was found that a child can drown in the time it takes to read 3 sentences and that these children had been missing or out of sight for merely 5 short minutes or less. The child’s survival solely depends on prompt rescue and resumption of breathing since a precious second lost could lead to damaging the brain or worse, death. The CPSC research asks parents and pool owners to observe swimming pool laws, especially since child drowning is a silent and fast death where there are no signals.
The Consumer Product Safety Commission (www.cpsc.gov ) did a study on drowning in the USA .The results revealed that 75% of submersion victims were 1-3 years old, 65% of whom were boys. Accordingly, toddlers were more at risk because of their ever-changing capabilities and attempts at autonomy particular to their age group. Interestingly, swimming pool laws were somehow being followed as most victims were being supervised by one or more parent at the time of the accident. Moreover, these children were not expected to be near the pool 69% of the time and yet they were discovered in the water. Most of these submersion accidents happened in a familiar place—in swimming pools owned by the family (65%) and in pools owned by a relative or a friend (33%).

Please, please, educate your children about pool safety, watch them at all times while near any body of water and get them the proper swim instruction.

We splished! We splashed! And we dove right in! The water felt great this week as we dipped our toes in for the first time this season. Since the weather was hot and muggy, the pool was a welcome relief instead of a cold shock as in years past.
Private lessons and water aerobics preview classes were held this week with much success.

Check out our NEW class:
Pre Beginner
A class for our 2 year old students who are ready to go! Water safety and comfort without mom or dad around is the focus of this class and those beginner skills, blowing bubbles, faces in the water, and learning to LOVE floating on our backs are some of the skills we will cover.
This class is offered at Wellington Trace at 11am during all sessions. Class size is limited to 4 students due to age.
The season is shaping up to be a busy one, so register now! We can't wait to swim with more of you!

Only nine more days until the pool opens! Hopefully our weather will cooperate so we can all enjoy a warm weekend lounging by the pool and firing up the barbeque!
I invite you all to lather up, break out those towels and dust off the noodles, its time to swim!
Have a happy and safe Memorial Day weekend! See you swimming soon!

Welcome to Safety First Aquatics!
My name is Rachel Sanger and I am the President of Safety First Aquatics, LLC. I formed my company the spring of 2008 after teaching in Frederick County for four years. Teaching children and adults to swim is my passion! I love the look on a child's face when they learn to blow bubbles or put their face in the water for the first time. My program is not just about learning to swim, but learning to be safe in the water.
Over the past 12 years I have taught a variety of students, on all levels. This includes those that required special needs ranging from mental to physical disabilities. My company has also participated with the Young Athletes of Frederick which is a division of Special Olympics. My certifications include American Red Cross Lifeguarding, CPR and First Aid, I have taught the Red Cross swimming curriculum, have my water aerobics certification and have developed my own curriculum that best fits my company’s mission statement. My instructors have undergone rigorous training and provide the most current swimming techniques to help students learn and develop their abilities.
Mission Statement:
To provide quality water instruction to children ages 6 months to 17 years & adults age 18 and over. This will be accomplished while fostering an environment of trust between the instructor and student; while maintaining safety at all times.
My company currently provides services to several communities in the Frederick area and has a reputation for providing excellent training. I would love to provide your children with a safer swimming environment!
Swim lessons are available for children ages 6 months to 18 years of age and adult lessons are available as well. Lessons begin June 14th, don't miss out! Register today!
